Product Overview

Going out PRiMOPUeL KOPUeL

Released on September 9, 2000, this compact and portable version of PRiMOPUeL stands about 19 cm tall when seated. It features three interactive modes: Home Mode, Outing Mode, and KOPU Talk.

Using Outing Mode frequently will shape the doll’s personality into a lively, active, and cheerful type. In contrast, using Home Mode more often results in a slightly spoiled yet obedient personality. There are three personality types in total, including a neutral one that sits between the two extremes.

The doll is equipped with six sensors and switches:

  • A cuddle sensor that reacts to vibration
  • A temperature sensor that responds to changes in temperature by commenting on how hot or cold it feels
  • A right-hand grip sensor
  • A left-hand grip switch
  • A heart switch on its chest
  • A tail switch

It has a vocabulary of around 150 words.

To activate Outing Mode, press and hold the left-hand grip switch. Once activated, the doll begins outing fortune telling, and the vibration sensor counts your steps. It speaks various phrases every 250 steps and sings a special song every 5,000 steps. There are 11 types of outing fortunes. Pressing and holding the same switch again will cancel Outing Mode. If the doll hasn’t been taken out in three days, it will remind you with words encouraging an outing.

Communication Features:
By pressing and holding the heart switches on two KOPUeLs simultaneously and bringing their right-hand sensors together within about 20 seconds, they’ll begin conversing using a feature called KOPU Talk.

Each KOPUeL can recognize up to 30 registered friends by reading the ID embedded in the right hand. Based on the relationship, compatibility, date/time, and their last meeting, the dolls will change their conversation and even sing unique compatibility songs. If more than 30 friends are registered, the earliest ones will be forgotten. Interestingly, if one KOPUeL has a cold and communicates using KOPU Talk, the other can “catch” the cold, too. Once a KOPUeL makes 10 or more friends, it begins singing songs about popular people.

Color Variants:
Initially, five base colors were available: black, red, blue, orange, and purple.
On November 30, 2000, four brighter colors were introduced:

  • Lovely Strawberry
  • Smiling Carrot
  • Happy Clover
  • Exciting Soda

A limited edition version themed after the 2002 Japan National Soccer Team was released on May 24, 2002.

In December 2000, the Copuco Pack, which included two KOPUeL, was launched in colors red, blue, lovely strawberry, and exciting soda.

The product was also released in France and South Korea, where it gained popularity, especially among girls, with 100,000 units sold by May 2002.

More Outings PRiMOPUeL KOPUeL

Released on June 19, 2004. This updated version of KOPUeL introduces six different personality types and twice as many spoken phrases compared to the earlier model.

New features include a volume control with three levels—high, medium, and low—and a “mouth chuck” function: pressing and holding the tail switch will make the Kopuel stop speaking. Press and hold the switch again to cancel this function and allow it to speak again.

The ID sensor has been moved to the forehead, and two Kopuels can now greet each other and start communicating by pressing and holding their heart switches simultaneously and then touching foreheads.

With this update, older KOPUeLs are designated Type A, while newer ones are classified as Type B. The distinction follows the same rule as with original Primopuel models:

  • Tags with red letters indicate Type A
  • Tags with navy blue letters indicate Type B

Cross-type communication is supported—Type B units can interact with Type A, COROLa, and COBOL models by touching their forehead sensor to the right hand of a Type A unit.
